Low Bodyfat isn’t Necessarily a Good Thing
Low bodyfat has become the ultimate fitness aspiration for many, but to believe that low bodyfat is healthy is a misguided notion. Bodies are supposed to have fat, especially women’s.
Most people know that aiming for an extremely low weight is dangerous, but fewer people are aware of the impact of a low bodyfat percentage. Low body fat may be it’s less drastic and less apparent in its impact, but it does negatively affect a person’s health.
For optimal health and fitness, women need at least 20 percent bodyfat. Yet, so many women aspire to lower their bodyfat and generally perceive any amount of bodyfat to be a horrible thing.
Excessively low bodyfat leads to greater susceptability to illness, increased risk of reproductive problems, lowered bone density, stress fractures, and a lowered immune system.
Bodyfat isn’t bad; we need it for health and energy. Going too far above or below a healthy bodyfat range can have detrimental effects on a person’s health.
