The college I attend has over 17,000 students.
There is not a single service directed at eating disorders on the campus. Not one. Yes, there’s the counseling center and a campus dietician, but nothing that is specifically aimed at eating disorders.
I walk across campus and on any given day, I see at least a few girls who must have eating disorders (or else some metabolic/medical disorder, which seems less likely). Yet there are no services available to them.
There are support groups for alcoholics, LGBTQ and students doing dissertations but is there anything for mental disorders? NO. There are events for awareness about sex, AIDS, alcoholism and suicide, but anything for mental disorders? Nope.
One out of four people suffers from a mental disorder. That’s thousands of people they’re not providing services to. It was like this at my last college, too.
Colleges: please make services for the students with mental health issues on your campuses.
